Workers’ Comp Alert

The Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) Bureau of Compliance is warning individuals needing to file exemptions to be aware of solicitations from a private company offering exemption filing services. The service is not free and is not considered the official application package. Payments made to entities other than the Division of Workers Comp do not take the place of the required fees. The solicitation directs you to a website that is not the Florida Division of Workers’ Comp, the only authority responsible for processing and approving exemption applications. The DWC mails renewal information and an application approximately 75 days before the expiration date of the existing exemption. If you have questions, visit them at www.myfloridacfo.com/wc/ or call 800-742-2214

Message from FRSA President

In support of Keith Perry, Dave Cumming, FRSA President, wrote the following:
This year, one of our very own, Keith Perry, Republican, is running for Florida's Legislature in House District 22 in Ocala/Gainesville area. As you can all appreciate, it would be fantastic to have in the Florida House of Representatives a roofing contractor who understands our industry and our needs.
We all need to show Keith that the FRSA family and roofing industry support getting him elected so we will have a very direct voice in Tallahassee.
Please plan to support Keith by bringing a check (max: $500) to Convention, made payable to "Keith Perry House Campaign." You will be able to hand him the check on Thursday or Friday, or you can drop it off at the FRSA booth in the Trade Show.
By supporting the election of a roofing contractor, I can't think of a better way to express our theme this year - VICTORY through UNITY.
If you will not be at Convention, please consider mailing a check: Keith Perry House Campaign, P.O. Box 12949, Gainesville, FL 32604.
Some information about Keith Perry: Licensed roofing contractor since 1987 and owner of Perry Roofing, Inc., headquartered in Gainesville.
Thank you!

From Shingles to Asphalt

Canadian initiative turns shingles into asphalt
The Roofs to Roads initiative recycles roof shingles into asphalt in Canada. The Greensite Recycling plant in Winnipeg allows roofers to recycle shingles, which typically contain layers of asphalt. "It's great not having to drive out and dump it at the landfill everyday when we're done," said Danny McArthur, general manager for Watson's Roofing. The Daily Graphic (Portage la Prairie, Manitoba)
